Young Experts Forum

Young Experts from 31 Countries Discover World Heritage

From 18 to 29 June 2015 – prior to the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee –, young heritage experts gathered in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley and in Bonn for the Young Experts Forum Towards a Sustainable Management of World Heritage Sites

The Young Experts participated in workshops, hands-on conservation work and a simulation of the Committee and thus exchanged and broadened their national and regional perspectives. During the Forum, the 20 to 30 year-old participants discussed the sustainable management of World Heritage sites. They underlined their position as relevant players in the protection of World Heritage by presenting their Declaration at the Opening Ceremony of the World Heritage Committee.

The Young Experts Forum was organised by the German Commission for UNESCO and the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in cooperation with the NGO European Heritage Volunteers. The Forum was financed by the Federal Foreign Office.

As a follow-up of their joint work in Germany, the participants of the Young Experts Forum 2015 initiated “Young Heritage Experts”, an online platform which was launched three months after the session. The platform aims to serve as a think tank and an international networking platform for young professionals, activists, and researchers in the field of cultural and natural heritage.
