Side Events at the WCCB

Internationally Designated Sites and their Synergies
IUCN and German Commission for UNESCO
The German Commission for UNESCO, IUCN and UNESCO organise a Side Event on “Internationally designated sites and their synergies”.  In several cases, World Heritage sites’ areas coincide with or partly cover Ramsar sites, Biosphere Reserves or Geoparks. The number of these sites with multiple designations increases and thus the need to meet their distinct requirements through appropriate management approaches.  The side event will focus on synergies between the international designations by highlighting case studies. It should serve as a platform to support dialogue about the opportunities arising from these designations and to join efforts to further improve synergies.

World Heritage Education – German Experiences
German Commission for UNESCO and Partners
Due to their outstanding universal value, Word Heritage Sites are ideal places for a comprehensive examination and understanding of UNESCO issues such as cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue or sustainable development. World Heritage Education provides the opportunity to take up current political subjects and social challenges and has a high potential to shape social development. The Side Event presents various examples of good practice and innovative projects from Germany concerning sustainability and intercultural exchange, among others. The event aims to provide a platform for a vibrant exchange of experiences and seeks to initiate international cooperation in the field of World Heritage Education.
