ICOMOS Celebrates 50th Anniversary on “International Day for Monuments and Sites”
The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is a professional association that works for the preservation and protection of cultural heritage places around the world. It was founded in 1965 in Warsaw as a result of the Venice Charter of 1964, and offers advice to UNESCO on World Heritage Sites. ICOMOS is a vibrant organisation with over 10700 members in 144 countries.
ICOMOS celebrates its 50th anniversary by honouring its founders, highlighting its achievements and by reflecting on its future objectives through a series of international events.
The aim of the International Day for Monuments and Sites is to encourage local communities and individuals throughout the world to consider the importance of cultural heritage to their lives, identities and communities, and to promote awareness of its diversity and vulnerability and the efforts required to protect and conserve it.
