Chairperson Böhmer and Ambassadors to UNESCO Discuss World Heritage in Germany

From 3 to 5 May 2015, Minister of State Maria Böhmer welcomed ambassadors to UNESCO from Japan, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Philippines, Portugal, Serbia, Singapore, Tanzania, Turkey und Germany.

 

Prior to the upcoming 39th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Bonn, the group visited several German World Heritage sites and discussed German and international efforts to protect and preserve cultural goods and World Heritage. In her capacity as Chairperson of the 39th session, Ms Böhmer highlighted the extraordinary commitment of local communities to protect World Heritage as well as the importance of natural and cultural heritage for people's identity in a regional, national and international context.

The group went to Berlin, Brandenburg and Sachsen-Anhalt as well as to the Länder of Hesse and Bavaria, where it visited 3 of the 12 sites on Germany's Tentative List: "Darmstadt Artists‘ Colony Mathildenhöhe“ in Hesse,  and the Bavarian sites “Hydraulic Engineering and Hydroelectric Power, Drinking Water and Decorative Fountains in Augsburg“ and “Dreams in Stone – the palaces of King Ludwig II of Bavaria: Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee“.
