Greetings by the Lord Mayor of Bonn

Jürgen Nimptsch, Lord Mayor of the Federal City of Bonn, cordially welcomes all participants of the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee in Bonn, Germany:

“A warm welcome to you to Bonn, Germany’s United Nations City! Over the past two decades, the UN have established their global hub for sustainable development here, - surrounded by a unique cluster of institutions and organizations active in the fields of environment and development.

Our city’s history goes back 2,000 years – what had been a Roman foundation became a medieval market, the seat of the archbishops and electors of Cologne and, at a later point in time, capital of the Federal Republic of Germany for almost five decades.

Today, Bonn has grown into a renowned and appreciated platform for international debates and has become a nurturing environment for international exchange. Here is the place where policy, inspiration and vision meet networking, cooperation and action.

Bonn unites history and future, and we cherish our cultural heritage.

The City of Bonn takes pride in hosting the 2015 meeting of the World Heritage Committee, which is organized by UNESCO, the Federal Foreign Office and the German Commission for UNESCO. We are pleased to welcome the delegates here in Bonn and wish all a successful meeting!

May you all take home excellent memories of our beautiful city on the banks of the Rhine, embedded in and surrounded by our precious natural and cultural heritage which we seek to protect!”
